Who is Vamos Bufalos?
Vamos Bufalos is a unique collaboration between the University Of Colorado Chancellor’s Office, Athletic Department, and Buffalo River Clothing. Vamos Bufalos supports student academic excellence in ethnically and socio-economically diverse Colorado communities by offering high performing, low-income, first-generation high school student’s opportunities to become university graduates.
Why is Vamos Bufalos needed?
The need for the Vamos Bufalos program arises from the “Colorado Paradox”, whereby a high percentage of Colorado residents, mostly imported, possess a post-secondary education (39.7%), while a low percentage of Colorado high school graduates actually do attend college. The Colorado Commission of Higher Education and the University of Colorado system both recognize and agree that Latino males (9%) are the least likely group to attend college, compared to Colorado’s total of 29%.
